Maria Sharapova – or least her replica – will have the honor of taking a place as the first tennis star in the Hong Kong outpost of the world-famed Madame Tussauds wax museum. The WTA No. 3 and winner of four grand slam event titles is being added to a growing collection of famous names on display at the offshoot of the original London museum set up well over a century ago.

The Russian’s figure will be wearing typical tennis gear, more particularly, the outfit she wore during her 2012 French Open title sweep. “Sharapova will be the first tennis star to be part of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and tennis fanatics can challenge her in a game of tennis with the interactive experience. We are excited to welcome Sharapova to the attraction and we hope to bring in many more risings stars from the sports world this year,” said a spokesman for the museum.

Sharapova will join other sporting icons already on display, including David Beckham and Chinese basketballer Yao Ming.

Murray To Be Honored By Scottish University

Andy Murray’s main education has been the Tennis School of Hard Knocks. But the Scot is set to be awarded an honorary degree in April when he visits the land of his birth for the presumed opening of his luxury boutique hotel near his hometown of Dunblane.

Stirling University will do the honors for the Wimbledon winner, duplicating the degree awarded to his tennis coach mother Judy recently. Murray is also set to not only receive the degree but also the freedom of the Scottish city, which was first announced after his US Open and Olympic titles several seasons ago..

Murray, who is not playing the Monte Carlo Masters at mid-month in a shakeup to his schedule, will make a one-day visit to his former home. British media quoted a local Dunblane politician with congratulating the 26-year-old native son, “There is immense local pride in Andy and his sporting success, so it’s only fitting that he should be honored with a degree from our local university, which is rated as one of the best in the UK for Sports Studies.”

Murray’s recognition has understandably picked up since his last two winning summers of tennis, with the Scot receiving an OBE honor from Buckingham Palace.
