Sloane Stephens is still struggling with the wrist injury she suffered at Hopman Cup, with doctors yet to figure out the problem.
“I have like an old person’s wrist that kinda just messes up when it wants to and gives me some trouble,” she told USA Today.
The 20-year-old is experiencing ligament problems in her left wrist. Visits to five different doctors resulted in five different answers, she added, saying, “I don’t even know what the actual diagnosis is.”
Stephens also admitted she has also struggled mentally, after losing in the first round of Doha and Dubai after reaching the fourth round in Australia.
“Some things I let slip away. I’m just trying to grab it by the horns when it’s there,” she said. Her concentration has not been helped by the attention she received following her run to the Australian Open semifinals last year and her controversial remarks about Serena Williams. But Stephens says she is growing used to it, even if she doesn’t like it.
“There’s going to be a lot of things that happen throughout the year and some things are super frustrating that I don’t want to deal with half the time,” she said. “But at the end of the day you have to be patient, otherwise things will just not happen.”
