I’m Back In Indian Wells – By Austin Karosi  |

Hi all, Austin here from Indian Wells.
It has been a while since my last entry to 10sBalls.com. I’ve been off the radar for a bit, I had some tough months before having hip surgery. But will leave that behind.

It’s the first day at the Indian Wells tennis tournament. Walking in, I immediately
saw a familiar face, the coach and husband of Melinda Czink. It was a funny coincidence because while I was playing tournaments in Australia by chance I met his parents and friends. They actually put me up at their place during my time there. We all had a quick laugh about the coincidence.

Shortly after, I bumped into Lovey, Pancho, and the 10sBalls family. It was great to catch up with them before heading to the gym. It has only been 5 weeks since my hip surgery and just one week off crutches, I have to start slow with different exercises to stretch out the muscles around the hip.

On the way in I met Janko Tipsaravic’s physical trainer, who said would work out with me later in the week and show me some particular exercises that I can do for my hip. I am pretty stoked!

Being in the gym with all these players makes me eager to get back in shape and hopefully back on court. Guys are mostly doing high explosive workouts, bands and balance exercises. Always, nice to see what type of training the top players do in the gym.

I then headed for lunch followed by a visit to the physio to have my hip worked on.
While in there we were all talking about flights, players and physio’s alike – it was a nice way to catch up since we have all just flown in from all over the world. We all seemed to wish to fly first class one day… Emirates you got to start giving the players the hook ups!

As we were talking, Philipp Kohlschreiber walked in and asked for a physio.  There were a bunch of other guys waiting and one of the physio’s jokingly said, “Awww you’ve got at least five before you.”

Philipp smartly replied “Well, anyone smaller than me will just have to wait then.”

Michael Russell at just 5’8”, standing to the side wrapping his wrists, stopped and in a very calm and serious tone said, “I don’t think anyone in this room is smaller then you Phillip!” This brought a good laugh to the whole room. Although, Michael might not be the tallest guy, I wouldn’t want to get in an arm wrestling match with him!

I finished off the day simple and fun with my old family friends, the Bowers with dinner and a good movie ;)

Lets see what the rest of the week brings! Looking forward to it …
