****** TODAY’S MEN’S NEWS ******

Delray Beach

Spanish sixth seed Feliciano Lopez rallied past dis-heartened American Sam Querrey 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to hand the Californian his fifth consecutive defeat of the season. One-time US No. 1 Querrey, his ranking sinking like a stone and now down to 57th, has not been able to produce much game after the heartbreak of an engagement gone wrong in 2013 and its subsequent effects on his tennis.

The Spanish winner advanced in just over 90 minutes as Querrey lost serve five times, double-faulting four times. On a lightly scheduled day, Frenchman Adrian Mannarino beat Jack Sock 6-4, 6- after losing twice this season to the American in Auckland and last week in the Memphis first round. Sock fired seven aces in defeat in an event headed by top seed Tommy Haas.

Marseille

Only one main draw match was played in a sleepy start, with Slovenian Kavcic schooling Australia’s teenaged hope Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-4, 6-2

Rio De Janeiro

The new event was big on South Americans as play began with Brazilian No. 1 Thomaz Bellucci reaching the second round over Santiago Giraldo of Colombia 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Argentine Federico Delbonis beat Brazil’s Guilherme Clezar with the loss of just two games while Argentine Facundo Bagnis eliminated Joao Souza from the host nation 7-5, 2-6, 6-2

Serb Dusan Lajovic overcame Filippo Volandri 6-7(7), 6-3, 4-0 as the Italian retired injured while Slovak Martin Klizan beat Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(4).
