Dubai Duty Free and WTA celebrate 10th anniversary of partnership
Dubai Duty Free, the world’s leading airport retailer, and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced today that global tennis stars Ana Ivanovic and Caroline Wozniacki have re-signed as brand ambassadors for Dubai Duty Free. The announcement coincides with the celebration of a decade-long partnership between Dubai Duty Free and the WTA.
“I’ve really enjoyed being an ambassador for Dubai Duty Free over the last two years as it’s given me the chance to spend more time exploring everything this exciting city has to offer. I’m looking forward to returning again for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and I’d like to thank Dubai Duty Free for its ongoing support of women’s tennis,” said Ana Ivanovic.
“I’m really excited to continue my role as ambassador for Dubai Duty Free. Dubai is one of my favorite stops on tour, and it’s even more special to return to the tournament each year as a former champion. I’ll often train in Dubai during the season because of the great weather, and of course, that gives me a chance to enjoy the city’s great restaurants and shopping too,” said Caroline Wozniacki.
“We are delighted to have Caroline and Ana as our brand ambassadors,” said Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free. “Both players are supreme professionals and are excellent ambassadors for women’s tennis and for Dubai Duty Free and we look forward to continuing to work with them on our ambassador program.”
“A loyal partner of the WTA for 10 years, Dubai Duty Free has been a longstanding leader in growing women’s tennis around the world,” said Stacey Allaster, Chairman and CEO of the WTA. “We appreciate their commitment to equal prize money, their vision for the sport, and I know Ana and Caroline will be outstanding ambassadors for not only Dubai Duty Free but women’s tennis too.”
During their time as global brand ambassadors, Ivanovic and Wozniacki have represented Dubai Duty Free at a number of prestigious international events. Wozniacki attended the Newbury Races for the Dubai Duty Free-sponsored spring meeting in 2012 and the Dubai Airshow Gala the following year, while Ivanovic made an appearance at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby in June last year, and walked the red carpet at the 2012 Dubai International Film Festival.
A sponsor since 2004, Dubai Duty Free’s partnership with the WTA has been marked by leadership and innovation. The Player Ambassador Program is just one element of the partnership between Dubai Duty Free as the No.1 duty free retailer in the world – which celebrated its 30th anniversary in December 2013 – with the No.1 global sport for women. For the last two years, Dubai Duty Free has been the presenting sponsor of the WTA’s prestigious year-end World No.1 awards, and the annual pre-Wimbledon party. In addition fans have been able to enjoy an insight into the WTA players and city stops on the tour through Dubai Duty Free’s Full of Surprises Travel Show.
Dubai Duty Free, in its role as owner, organizer and title sponsor of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, was the first event in the Middle East to award equal prize money and is a longtime supporter of the growth of women’s tennis throughout the region.
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships will take place on February 17-22, 2014 with a field showcasing seven of the world’s Top 10, five players who’ve held the World No.1 ranking and four former champions of the event. Last year the event received the Gold Award for Event Marketing at the 7th ISEM Awards held in London.
