The USTA announced that Har-Tru Sports will be a domestic sponsor of the U.S. vs. Great Britain Davis Cup by BNP Paribas First Round tie, which will be played on a temporary red clay court in left field of PetCo Park January 31-February 2 in San Diego.
Har-Tru partnered with Premier Concepts, Inc., to construct the temporary red clay court on which the U.S. vs. Great Britain Davis Cup tie will be played.
“As the host nation of a Davis Cup tie, our team had its choice of playing surface, and that choice was red clay,” said Jeff Ryan, the USTA’s Senior Director, Team Events. “We are thrilled with the job Har-Tru and Premier Concepts have done to build such a unique venue with a fantastic playing surface, and we are very happy to be partnering with Har-Tru for this Davis Cup tie.”
The construction of the temporary clay court within PetCo Park took approximately 500 hours for the crew of eight. Materials for the court included 75 tons of clay, provided by Har-Tru and imported from Imola, Italy, and 250 tons of crushed stone to serve as the base of the court.
Har-Tru is also the title sponsor of the Har-Tru USTA Pro Circuit Wild Card Challenge, which awards a man and a woman with a singles main draw wild card into the French Open based on results on the USTA Pro Circuit.
