Rafael Nadal won’t need long to heal the back injury which struck during his Australian Open finals loss to Stan Wawrinka, with the Spaniard’s coach Toni Nadal telling private radio that the problem is not something serious.
Nadal remains on 13 grand slam event titles after losing to Wawrinka in four sets with the back problem which required several mid-match physio visits on court. Uncle Toni told the Seville’s radio Cadena Ser that Nadal would rest at home on Mallorca and be ready to travel to Argentina for his next event from February 10.
“The doctor said it’s a tightening of the muscles and a few days rest should be enough,” said the senior Nadal. “He went into the match after feeling twinges during the week but very minor ones that normally do not affect you at all. In the second game of the second set he felt a pinch. When I asked him after treatment what was happening he said ‘it’s over’.”
Nadal looked at times to be near to tears as he willed himself to play, But it was not enough and he finally went down after winning the third set as Wawrinka failed to find focus against his wounded -bull opponent before finally steadying for the biggest victory of his career.
