Andy Murray’s handlers have been quietly making applications in the British patent office to lock down any use of their man’s image by unauthorized products in the wake of the Scot’s historic Wimbledon title last summer.
Murray, who has by some accounts not gained a new sponsor of note since his achievement on the lawns of the All England Club, is now trademarked for products starting with men’s and women’s underwear, according to London’s Daily Mail.
In addition, applications also cover a range up to 100 products including computer games, sportswear, DVDs and stationery, Halloween costumes, greeting cards, toy dolls, slippers, bath toys, roller skates, coloring books, paddling pools and surf boards.
There is no suggestion that Murray – whose luxury hotel is due to open in Scotland in the spring – will be selling a line of knickers anytime soon. But things are now square with London’s Intellectual Property Office regarding any unlicensed future products.
