New ATP Tennis Rule :No Talking While Roger Federer Is Playing. By Global Chick

From the moment Roger Federer takes the court ( stage ) the crowd shall settle in. Rule number 8.06 in VIII in the code on page 182. In the latest edition of the rule book. Oh sorry that’s about dispute resolution. Page 229 is about “change of ends” ok. I confess. I made it up.

There’s a lucky few who get to watch the maestro grace the court live. To the rest of the world we can only see the magnificence on a Telly screen at home and the sizes of our screens vary. Today my nose is pressed up against mine. But my tv is on mute. I’ve watched tennis on a TV and in person around the globe. ( Hence my name ) but for real the worst offenders are the tv commentators and you know who you are. Shame on you and your producers. We don’t tune in the listen to their babble. It used to be that the tv folks only spoke when the point wasn’t in play. Now it’s non stop as if two friends were hanging in a bar and chatting away. You know who you are. Ok. The worst is Chris rhymes with Prowler. You barely know the sport but you don’t shut up.

Ok. So I’ve gone thru my 2014 edition of the ATP rule book and I already confessed that I made the rule up. FYI the rule book is 300 odd pages of nonsense and double talk. Throw in some arsenic. It’s killing our sport. No smart person wants to run a sanctioned event. The rules have rules.

The worst rules are the patches. The patch sizes and number you can wear are controlled. A big headache to try and put patches on players. They are walking billboards. So are the coaches. But that’s another story. Back to the mighty Federer. We are watching such pure tennis that really silence is called for. An occasional ooh and ahh is ok. Even a bravo or head shake. But no talking. Just enjoy his brilliance. Enjoy how smoothly he navigates the court. Icing on the cake is having Stefan Edberg is his box.
