Today was a long one. For the first time all tourney the heat rule came into affect and pushed tennis back in to the wee hours of the night. The day concluded with 5 setters spread all over the grounds, the upset of the tournament so far was my guy Del Po going out in the 2nd rd. Got a chance to shoot some of the Nadal match court side which was great, the photog area here in Melbourne is nice and makes for great photo taking chances! The pic above makes me think about how important perspective is in life, while I was told to wait for a changeover before I could enter the court and take my photos I realized that the guy with the best seat in the house is the man you see sitting in the photo. The security guard who has the power to let you on court or not. While he is probably overlooked by most comers and goers, he gets to see it all and probably knows more about this tournament than anyone. It also made me think of how just a few feet can be the difference between having a great view and understanding of a situation and being completely blind to it. Sometimes in life we get to close to something and we almost can’t see the forrest from the trees. Only when we take a step back are we able to gain the proper perspective on what it is we are truly looking at.
We are through two rounds here in Melbourne and on to the third round we go. Hopefully we get some interesting matches going into the weekend, you can catch all the action on the ESPN family of networks and online at espn3.com
