Tennis 2014. Put on your seat belts. Tighten them. We are in for a ride! Super Stars of our sport, super star coaches, super 10s and a Supersonic Season!
Of course it took Roger Federer to get the biggest spotlight. Announcing that the twins are going to be big sisters. Does Mirka have more twins coming? He then pulls the stealthy surprise of Stefan Edberg joining the team as head coach. That’s totally amazing (don’t forget about coach Gavin)! Now when Roger Federer wins the Stefan Edberg sportsmanship award his coach will be handing it to him. AmazeBalls. Totally awesome to see them both on court together grinning. That’s a winning combo. They both basically played with the same Wilson racket. They can fine tune the larger head together. Awesome.
We have Novak Djokovic dropping Dusan Vemic out of his team because among other things there were always a lot of people around. Yikes. Sorry folks but we don’t see Boris Becker and his ego lasting… We love Boris. We really do. But for real the entourage and spotlight just got way too big. Not that “Boom Boom ” wouldn’t be great as the captain of other players helms….
Sven Groeneveld , yes that Sven. Orange coach. Orange heart ,has blended right in with the Super Sharapova team. That’s a winning combo. Personality wise this is a great addition as is vermouth to the perfect martini. We wish you great success. (and an occasional postcard)
I know we keep promising to get to the doubles guys ok. So it’s now. Postcard from Max Mirnyi ,he tells us he is starting the year in Sydney playing with Jerzy Janowicz . And with Mikhail Youzhny at the Australian Open . After thst he didnt say. The rest of the guys line up un officially. The Bryan brothers.(big congrats on the new addition) Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic (we hope Danny plays nice this time around) , Horia Tecau and J-J Rojer (2 truly nice guys) . OK , I Give up. I’m saving this story for Don or Shubert .
Hopman Cup . We would write about it but haven’t received a word from them. Weird way to run a tennis tourney. Harry Hopman was a perfectionist. He would be happy that there was a tourney named after him. But he would expect it to be first rate in every way.
What else? Oh let’s see we are happy to say we really are getting the dust off our newsletter. We will start a daily sometime soon. In the meantime please enjoy the news we will get from down under from Mr.Tennis 411 ,Matt Cronin.
