Amid the street turmoil in Bangkok protesting an unpopular government, former Thai tennis ace Paradorn Srichaphan is preparing to change career tack yet again as he proposes running for a seat in Bangkok local government.
The 34-year-old who last played on the ATP in 2007 and finally retired in 2010 with his lingering wrist injury, won five ATP titles, and once stood ninth in the rankings.
He said he will run for a seat from central Bangkok’s Din Daeng and Phayathai districts.
He is set to participate in February 2 elections which have been called by the government but which the much of the opposition has said it will boycott by fielding no candidates. Paradorn will run under the flag of the Chart Pattana Party, in opposition to PM Yinkluck Shinawatra.
