Flip, aka Flipper, aka Kirsten Flipkens won Belgium’s female athlete of the year. Big congrats from the team @ 10sballs for being part of the 2013 year with “Flipper ” wearing our patch for most of the year! And especially big congrats to Max Braeckman who brought her out of obscurity to number 12 in the world. Max formerly coached Xavier Malisse. He is currently a coach at the Kim Clijsters academy.
Channel 9 says that Aussie coach Roger Rasheed will donate $300,000 to the redevelopment of the Oakland Park Reserve. . . Former USC varsity tennis standout Greg Michaels, who is now the CEO of Southern California Telephone & Energy, was honored among his peers and fellow USC athletes at the Los Angeles Coliseum. . . Former Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova’s thoughts on next season: “I know if I play my best tennis then I can win matches,” Kvitova told apiainternational.com.au. “I am a different player now (compared with 2011). I have been through a lot mentally since then and have had to learn to fight and win even when not playing my best tennis.” . . Veteran Samantha Stosur on playing mixed doubles with the young Bernard Tomic at the Hopman Cup: “It’s normally the guy that kind of leads things but I’ve probably played a lot more mixed matches than he has. So we’ll make it a combined effort and have a bit of fun. That’s the most important thing with mixed doubles. You can’t take it as seriously as your singles. You don’t want to be so stressed out.” . . . Piotr Wozniacki to Ekstra Bladet on his 2014 plans: “I’ll be 100% sure to be in Indian Wells and Miami, because I love those tournaments for their atmosphere. But I’ll be there on holiday as [Caroline’s] dad. I’m not in that circus any longer, but I’m not in jail either. I’ll be there with [my wife] Anna and sit with the spectators. I have no responsibility for Caroline’s tennis.” . . . Jaroslav Navratil has had his contract as Czech Davis Cup Captain extended. . . Chad Camper has been named Louisiana Tech women’s head coach. . . Poland vs. Italy will be the first tie on opening day of Hopman Cup, and will be followed by Canada vs Australia.

—That the Romanian press is reporting that the WTA Budapest Grand Prix, which was held after Wimbledon in 2013, will move to Bucharest, but the WTA has not been notified of any such change.
—That Belinda Bencinc, the Swiss 16 year-old who became the 2013 ITF Junior World Champion earlier this month has been sponsored by Rolex and appointed one of Switzerland’s Tennis ambassadors. She will be contesting the qualifying rounds of next month’s Australian Open in Melbourne.
