Novak Djokovic and fiancée Jelena Ristic have gone to the dogs on the internet, with postings of the world No. 2 and his partner “pressing paws” with their toy poodle Pierre to generate awareness for the Dogs Trust’s Press Paws Campaign on Twitter.
The British animal charity is campaigning this holiday season to make dog owners aware of their continuing responsibility to their four-legged friends. The charity wants to remind owners that a pet requires a long-term commitment and should not be done on a spur-of-the-moment basis or as a quick-fix holiday present.
The Djokovic couple have joined in the animal welfare campaign along with British singer Leona Lewis among other local celebrities. The campaign is also asking fans to post pictures of themselves with their own pets on the charity’s Tumblr feed. Slogan of the effort: “A dog is for life…not just for Christmas.”
Djokovic dog Pierre is no stranger to tennis fans, with his master keeping the presumably spoiled Monte Carlo-based pooch constantly in the public eye and taking him occasionally on the road to tournaments. Business graduate Jelena Ristic also devotes most of her time to children’s welfare causes and charities in the couple’s native Serbia and is a constant Twitter presence for her cause.
