Rafael Nadal has taken a shot at another record held by Roger Federer, with the Spaniard earning a reported $10 million for a week or so of “work” on court in South America, backed up by world No. 2 Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer for part of the lucrative post-season trip.

Swiss tabloid Blick reported that Nadal’s massive payday came close to that of Roger Federer, who earned a reported $12-14 million for a few days of exos on the tennis-starved continent. “This was paid handsomely. Nadal collected over nine million francs ($10 million) – or nearly 1,000 francs per minute,” said Blick.

Nadal won a dozen titles in 2013 as he re-gained the top ranking from Djokovic, with the Spaniard’s office prize money totaling a healthy $12 million compared to a mere $2.7 million for sixth-ranked Federer.

But Nadal insists that his earning mean nothing compared to the thrill of evangelizing the sport to new audiences. “Our goal is that viewers get to see great tennis,. I’m very excited,” said Nadal during his Peruvian stop last month against compatriot Ferrer ($4 million last season).”
