Former French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero will bring world-class Spanish methods to Chinese tennis when he opens a tennis academy in Shenzhen just over the border from Hong Kong. Ferrero’s long-established tennis camp in Alicante, Spain will supply coaches and support for the new facility.

The project to be opened next September looks to be spare-no-expense, with plans for a 5.000 seat stadium, 20 hard courts (16 indoor and 4 outdoor) and 4 indoor clay courts. It will also boast a 200-rooms four-star hotel, dormitory building for 500 players, classroom building and other facilities. Ferrero is expected to make several supervisory trips to the facility per year.

The project was finalized last month as the new Grand Gemdale Tennis Club Co. signed a contract with the JC Ferrero Academy.

“I feel really excited about this and I really want to collaborate in this exciting project with Gemdale. I really am surprised that this company has female scholar players and that the company is so committed to tennis,” said Ferrero. “I hope to make my contribution with the Asian continent to continue promoting competition tennis”.
