NATIONAL JUNIOR TENNIS LEARNING NETWORK OF THE COACHELLA VALLEY

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., November 26, 2013 – The BNP Paribas Open, the largest ATP World Tour and WTA combined two-week event in the world to be held March 3-16, 2014 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, donated $5,266 to the Eisenhower Schnitzer/Novack Breast Center located at Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center, it was announced today by Steve Simon, tournament director.

The tournament committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center is a remarkable cancer treatment facility that offers patients unrivaled medical care and comprehensive cancer services, including treatment for prostate cancer and breast cancer.

“We are privileged to have the BNP Paribas Tennis Open make a donation in support of Eisenhower Schnitzer/Novack Breast Center,” says Michael Landes, President, Foundation, Eisenhower Medical Center. “It is truly philanthropy that has made this breast center one of the finest in Southern California.”

“Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center is grateful for the financial support garnered by the BNP Paribas Open’s efforts,” says Lilli Mandelik, Chief Administrative Officer, Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center. “Donations lead to more services, new technologies and greater support for our patients. There is nothing more important during a time of need than to know your cancer center is there with the healing touch you need.”

Additionally, the BNP Paribas Open will launch its annual holiday promotion whereby one dollar for every daily loge and grandstand ticket sold from December 1-23 will be donated to the National Junior Tennis Learning Network of the Coachella Valley. Daily tickets for the two-week event are now on sale and range in price from $13 for the first Thursday evening session to $100 for loge seats on the final weekend.

“The BNP Paribas Open is proud to contribute to the fight against breast cancer with our partners at Eisenhower Medical Center and we look forward to continuing our support of local tennis initiatives through NJTL,” said Simon.

The National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) network, founded in 1968 by Charlie Pasarell, the late Arthur Ashe and Sheridan Snyder, is a non-profit organization that reaches out to children through recreational tennis programs to help promote the positive attributes of sportsmanship, self-esteem and fitness. The Coachella Valley chapter offers a variety of programs including after school tennis programs throughout the region as part of the state of California’s After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program; tennis and enrichment programs to several community non-profit organizations; and a circuit of monthly tournaments for juniors. These are all made possible from critical fundraising programs and partnerships between schools and local community resources like the BNP Paribas Open and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
