International Tennis Federation president Francesco Ricci Bitti says critics of Viktor Troicki’s one-year doping suspension don’t understand the decision made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. “Critics need to read the decision,” Ricci Bitti told the AP. “This is a problem of words. CAS re-confirmed the violation and took into consideration some mitigating circumstances.” . . . New Zealand’s Marina Erakovic says that she did not ask for an appearance fee from her home county’s tournament, the ASB Classic in Auckland. “I never asked for money, that’s not correct,” Erakovic told the New Zealand Herald. “The reason I think this has come about was because I suggested some players have been paid to play in the past and I wasn’t. I’m not asking for money but I don’t want to be taken for granted either. I love to play at home in front of family, friends and supporters. I do it for the right reasons but compare that with Canada, for example. If you were a top 50 player in their events, you would probably be paid to play.” . . Martina Navratilova says that sexism still exists in the sporting world. “Men still have more opportunities, more corporations are run by men, therefore they’re more ready to sponsor male athletes. There’s a double standard, there’s no doubt about it in my mind. It’s still hard for some to accept strong women. With men, we’re so much quicker to accept their greatness. With women we doubt their greatness. I’ve seen it time and time again. It’s much easier for Roger Federer to be loved by everybody than for Serena Williams to be loved by everybody, just by the fact that he’s a guy.” … Robert Sevim, a former Big Ten Conference tennis player for Northwestern, recently represented the Big Ten Conference in their move to a new state-of-the-art headquarters and sale of their previous home that they resided in for over 20 years. He is a managing director at Studley’s Chicago office. . . Venus Williams is said to back to training after taking two months off. . . Ana Ivanovic has decided to officially appoint Nemanja Kontic as her coach, and Zlatko Novkovic as her fitness trainer. She has been working with them since she split with Nigel Sears in July.
