Dutchman Robin Haase has admitted that an anti-doping test carried out in 2006 revealed that he has abnormally high levels of testosterone, but in a letter he received from the ATP, they said it the abnormal level could very well be natural.
The 26 year old told the newspaper Volkskrant after he underwent the test that the ATP advised him to get a lawyer and said that he would have to undergo three more tests in the following weeks.
No. 43 ranked Haase said that his testosterone, levels never changed “and I have not heard anything about it since. I have never been afraid of being pursued for this positive test as it was established that I hadn’t been doping. I have been tested a dozen times in 2013, but I think controls in tennis need to be better targeted.”
Two significant ATP players, Viktor Troicki and Marin Cilic. were both suspended this season for failing doping tests, and WTA player Nuria Llagostera Vives was recently suspended for testing positive for a methamphetamine and is considering retirement.
