Novak Djokovic’s continued criticism of the world anti-doping regime as he defends banned compatriot Viktor Troicki has stung one top official, who has suggested that the world No. 2 doesn’t have a clue as to how the system works.
Djokovic has called Troicki’s 12-month suspension for missing a blood test “a total injustice.” That doesn’t sit well with the anti-doping cabal, with WADA boss john Fahey saying lashing out to CNN:
“I don’t think Novak Djokovic has the faintest idea what we do and if he wants to understand what we do I’m more than happy to pick up the phone and talk to him, if he wants to talk to me. If he wishes to then make a comment I might listen to him but for the moment I don’t think that was an informed statement.”
The Troicki case has provoked outrage in Serbia after the player illegal, it turned out, asked to postponed a blood test at the spring Monte Carlo ATP event due to feeling poorly, he took it the next day but was then slammed with his ban which runs until next July.
Other top players don’t agree with Djokovic: Andy Murray called Troicki’s action unprofessional” while Roger Federer said tennis needs more testing.
