Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal just reached the last stage of the ATP World Tour Finals, but have busy schedules ahead.
Djokovic will contest the Davis Cup final at home this coming weekend against the Czech Republic, while Nadal heads to the Necker Cup to play an exhibition at Virgin CEO’s Richard Branson’s event on the British Virgin Islands.
Nadal will also do some work for his foundation there as well as take some much-needed vacation.
Then he will head to South America for some exhibitions, one that will be in Chile against Novak Djokovic
“That give me the chance to know different places that I didn’t have the chance to visit in the past,” he said. “So gonna combine the matches with a little bit of tourism. That give me the chance to be a little bit with my people, the same time to visit people that is very difficult to visit for me around the world. I gonna enjoy that situation. Then I will go back to Spain around 26. I gonna do a checking of especially the knee. Gonna probably do a little bit of recovery on the knee and to try to have the chance to work hard for 15 days in December, no more. Then fly to Abu Dhabi and Doha to start the season.
“I don’t gonna have the chance to work a lot at home because after these few weeks in South America, I gonna rest for a while, probably until the 9th or 10th of December. Then the 26th I am flying to Abu Dhabi. I know I going to arrive to Abu Dhabi and Doha in probably not the best physical and tennis conditions because gonna be very short, the period of time I gonna have the chance to work. But I really hope that both events in Abu Dhabi and Doha give me a chance to prepare myself at my 100%, to be 100% ready for the first Grand Slam of the season.”
Djokovic has been playing non-stop since Beijing, but seems tireless, even though he said in London that he is feeling the effects of his long fall season. He and Nadal have faced each other 39 times on tour and have become almost like family members.
“We’ll be seeing each other quite often. I see him more than my mom actually,” he said with a laugh.
The Serbian noted that exhibitions can be important because they expose people in certain parts of the world that don’t get a chance to see them to high level tennis.
“We’ll have fun. Of course, exhibition events are very special,” he said. “You know, you can relax. Of course, it’s not as important if you win or lose, but you want to perform your best and allow the people to enjoy the high level of professional tennis, but yet again show the funnier side of our sport and our game. It’s something that I enjoy very much. After that I’m going to allow myself to have few weeks off. I deserve that time. I’m going to speak with my team, if I’m able to rest myself.”
