More than 26 years have passed since Boris Becker hurled himself into the sporting world’s perception as a 17 year-old to win Wimbledon.
14 years have passed since he retired from tennis but the German remains one of the most recognized and iconic sportsmen on the planet and he has chosen a new company to market his image.
The six times Grand slam winner, currently a Wimbledon resident in the United Kingdom, has signed with Doyen Global, set up in April of this year by Matthew Kay and Simon Oliveira, two former senior executives from XIX Entertainment and Creative Artist Agency.
Becker, aged 45, will partner with the new global agency across a number of significant areas including developing the company’s presence in tennis. He said: “Throughout my career I have always made sure I had the right team working with me to help me achieve my best.
“The team at Doyen have worked with some of the very top talent globally and we will both mutually benefit from working closely together.”
Up to now Doyen’s interest has been primarily in soccer. Oliveira has been the long-time business manager of former England captain David Beckham while recently the company announced a long term exclusive image rights agreement with Brazilian and Barcelona sensation, Neymar Jnr.
They also represent Barcelona’s Xavi and were involved in the summer transfers of Columbian Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid to Monaco, Kaka from Real Madrid to AC Milan and Alvaro Negredo from Seville to Manchester City.
Doyen managing director Oliveira however has tennis experience after working with Andy Murray for four years and said: “In Boris we have someone who was not only one of the most decorated and charismatic players in the game, he is also an astute and successful entrepreneur. He will be an incredible asset to our business and we are honored to be working with him.”
The financial backing behind the new company is the Doyen Group, a London-based financial hedge fund.
