I am not a baby tennis coach.” . . Richard Gasquet tells L’Equipe that in 2014 he will focus on the Davis Cup. “That event left me a little bitter. I’ve had great matches, but I often lost in five sets , and then this year, I was injured. When you see that the guys need you to win, and you’re useless, you’re don’t feel good.” Gasquet also denied Marion Bartoli’s claim on TV that he has flirted with her. “I have not flirted with Marion, not at all. The Lafayette, Mississippi County Board for Supervisors has declined to endorse resort status for a tennis club that wants to serve alcohol. The Goose Creek Club in Wellsgate now needs to gather 100 signatures in support and submit his request to the Mississippi Department of Revenue. Lafayette County is wet for alcohol and wine and dry for beer. The club has 14 clay courts. . . Seventeen-year-old Karen Khachanov will start Russia’s bid to avoid a second-straight Davis Cup demotion against South Africa on Friday. Khachanov upset Janko Tipsarevic to reach the quarterfinal of the Kremlin Cup. He plays No. 563 Dean O’Brien. . . Elena Vesnina says that one of the reasons why Russian Fed Cup captain Shamil Tarpischev was unable to recruit a high ranked team for the final against Italy next week is “He started to recruit it during the Kremlin Cup [last week]. That’s the mistake he did.”

–that rumors are spreading in Britain that leading women’s player Laura Robson is close to agreeing a deal with former Fed Cup captain Nigel Sears to be her next coach. Sears, father of Andy Murray’s long-term girlfriend Kim, has been out of work since splitting with Ana Ivanovic after Wimbledon and has extensive experience working on the WTA circuit with the likes of Amanda Coetzer, Daniela Hantuchova and Maria Kirilenko.
