New Directors Appointed to International Tennis Hall of Fame
Executives from global corporations, a Tennis Hall of Famer, and successful WTA Tour and ATP World Tour players turned tennis industry leaders are among the nine individuals who have been elected to the Board of Directors of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum.
The newly elected board members are: USTA First Vice President Katrina M. Adams, who won 21 doubles titles on the WTA Tour; Vijay Amritraj, a former world top-20 player and current lead anchor for ESPN Star Sports; David Bell, Chairman Emeritus of the Interpublic Group, Laurie Erlandson, a CPA formerly with Arthur Andersen & Co and now an active community leader; David B. Ford, President of DBF Associates and Senior Advisor to Gatemore Capital Management, LLC; David I. Goulden, President and COO of EMC® Corporation; Hall of Famer Charlie Pasarell, former owner of the BNP Paribas at Open at Indian Wells, who was the No.1 ranked player for the United States in 1967; Barbara van Beuren, Manager Director at Anbau Enterprises; and Stewart Wicht, President and CEO of Rolex Watch U.S.A., Inc.
Kilderry Named Hopman Cup Tournament Director
The ITF and Tennis Australia announced that Australian former professional tennis player Paul Kilderry will be the new tournament director of the Hyundai Hopman Cup.
“The ITF is very pleased to have Paul Kilderry assume the role of tournament director of the Hyundai Hopman Cup,” said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti.
“Paul is the perfect choice to be tournament director of the Hyundai Hopman Cup, which represents an important part of the Australian Open Series. His passion for the event, the sport and the State is second to none,” Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley said. “He will be supported by the existing world class Hyundai Hopman Cup events team and will also be closely aligned with Tennis West and the WA tennis community to ensure they are fully involved.”

With his upset of Janko Tipsarevic In Moscow, Russian Karen Khachanov became the first 17 year old to reach an ATP quarterfinal since Juan Martin Del Potro at 2006 Umag. . . Khachanov has been named to Russia’s Davis Cup team that will face South Africa at home in the BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group I second round play-off ties taking place on October 25-27. Other team members are Alex Bogomolov Jr., Andrey Kuznetsov and Konstantin Kravchuk. . . By beating Pablo Andujar in Vienne, Miloslav Mecir Jr. became the second child of a former Top 10 player who has won an ATP match this year. In July, Emilio Gomez, son of 1990 French Open champ Andres Gomez, won his first match in in Bogota. Miloslav Mecir Sr. is remembered for having the 1988 Olympic singles gold medal. . . WTA Chairman & CEO Stacey Allaster will hold a ‘State of the WTA” press conference on the day before the 2013 TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships Istanbul begins. . . The Tennis Bookshop in England is selling the The Annals of Tennis by Marshall (1878) for $1,035 dollars. . . Nadia Petrova has returned from injury to play doubles at Luxembourg with her partner Katerina Srebotnik. The two will contest the WTA Championships next week and it appears as if Petrova has a shot at being named to Russia’s Fed Cup team for the upcoming final against Italy. . . New Haven Open tournament director Anne Worcester on the future of the WTA event after the State of Connecticut put in bid to buy it and keep it at home. “I believe with the State’s support, especially in the area of facility infrastructure, this event will continue to improve, grow and thrive for years to come in New Haven.” . . . Tennis Australia’s commercial director Steve Ayles has left his post. Ayles was also the Hopman Cup tournament director, and will be succeeded in that role by his deputy, the former player. Valencia tournament director Juan Carlos Ferrero tried to get Novak Djokovic to take a late wild card, but the Serbian declined, preferring to wait to play again until the Paris/Bercy Masters.
