Despite complaining of wrist problems over the last several weeks which led to his ouster in Shanghai, there’s no stopping Lleyton Hewitt as the Australian carries on with his end-of-season plans by playing next week in Vienna.
The 32-year-old was beaten in the first round of the Masters 1000 in China by Andreas Seppi after defeating German Tommy Haas a week earlier in Beijing. Hewitt is lined up to play indoors in Vienna for the first time.
The No. 54 had complained of wrist pain but has decided to take a wait-and-see attitude. His management told Melbourne’s Age that the former No. 1 would keep on with his schedule and if the problem persists have it checked when he travels later to Australia.
The never-say-die Aussie is the picture of persistence, having saved his career after a series of foot and toe operations in recent seasons which could have spelled the end. He is on track for a possible finish in the top 60, his first since 2010.
