A great WIN by Gael Monfils today over Roger Federer in Shanghai! Gael is in the quarters at Shanghai and Sam Stosur is in the quarters in Osaka!!

 

Here is an ASICS Tennis update from around the world:

 

HP Japan Women’s Open in Osaka, Japan

Sam Stosur (ASICS FW & APP) advanced to the quarter-finals with two straight set wins in the first two rounds.

Sam will be playing Misaki Doi (ASICS FW) from Japan in the quarter-finals. Sam loves playing in Osaka and has had much success with this tournament in the past-winning the title in 2009, reaching the finals in 2011 and semis last year of this WTA International event. Sam is also playing doubles this week and has advanced to the semi-finals where she and her partner will be playing the #1 seeds and ALL ASICS American duo of Abigail Spears (ASICS FW & APP) and Raquel Kops-Jones (ASICS FW & APP)

Shanghai Rolex Masters in Shanghai, China

One week after losing a thrilling match in the third set tie-breaker to the #4 player in the world David Ferrer, Vasek Pospisil (ASICS FW & APP) upset the #10 player in the world, Richard Gasquet (ASICS FW) in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. In the second round, he met fellow ASICS athlete Gael Monfils (ASICS FW & APP). It was a very close match with Monfils coming out on top 7-5, 7-6(4) victory

Monfils followed up with a win over Roger Federer 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3 and will next play Novak Djokovic for a chance to book a spot in the semi-finals

Vasek is still-in the doubles draw as he and his partner Robert Lindstedt won their first round match vs. Philipp Kohlschreiber and Florian Mayer 7-6(3), 6-2 and today fought off a couple match points en route to upsetting the #3 seeds and doubles legends Leander Paes (who recently won the 2013 US Open doubles title)/Daniel Nestor (ASICS FW) 7-5, 3-6, 13-11 to advance to the quarter-finals of this Masters 1000 tournament

Michael Russell (ASICS FW & APP) qualified by beating fellow American Jack Sock in the final round of qualifying

Tommy Haas (ASICS FW) won his first round match against American Sam Querrey and beat fellow German Daniel Brands in the second round but had to pull out before his match today vs. Del Potro with a back injury.

Scott Lipsky (ASICS FW & APP) and Santiago Gonzalez (ASICS FW & APP) got off to a good start, but let it slip away losing 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 to Jonathan Marray (ASICS FW & APP) and Colin Fleming

The #5 seeds in doubles Ivan Dodig (ASICS FW) and Marcelo Melo (ASICS FW) won their second round match against Roger Federer and Ze Zhang 6-1, 1-6, 10-8 to advance to the quarters

 

Macon Challenger in Macon, Georgia

Julia Boserup (ASICS FW & APP) continued her comeback with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory over a very strong opponent and the 8th seed, 17 year-old Beatriz Haddad Maia (ASICS FW & APP) and today followed that win up with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Piia Suomalainen from Finland. She has advanced to the quarter-finals where she will have to play the #1 seed Ajla Tomljanovic. Julia and her partner 2012 Junior US Open Champion Samantha Crawford upset the #3 seeded team in doubles to advance to the quarter-finals in doubles as well.

 

Tiburon Challenger in Tiburon, California

Stevie Johnson (ASICS FW & APP) lost another close match 7-6(6), 2-6, 6-4 to John-Patrick ‘JP’ Smith (ASICS FW & APP). Stevie won more points overall in the match but still lost the match. JP then beat the #5 seed Rajeev Ram to advance to the quarters

The #1 seed Denis Kudla (ASICS FW) advanced to the quarter-finals only dropping two total games in both of his first two matches

Tennis Sandgren (ASICS FW) won his first round match in straight sets and today beat the #8 seed Bradley Klahn 6-1, 7-6(7)

 

Rennes Challenger in Rennes, France

#1 seed Kenny De Schepper (ASICS FW & APP) advanced to the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(9) battle over qualifier Bjorn Phau

#3 seeds Nick Monroe (ASICS FW & APP) and Simon Stadler (ASICS FW & APP) advanced to the semis and are the highest seeded team left in the doubles draw

 

Sao Jose Do Rio Preto Challenger in Brazil

The #6 seed Joao Souza (ASICS FW & APP) won his first two matches to advance to the quarter-finals in singles and is also the #1 seeds along with his partner Marcelo Demoliner and is in the semis in doubles

 

Margaret River Tennis International, Margaret River, Australia

 

A week after making it to the final of the $25K Perth Challenger, Irina Falconi (ASICS FW & APP), the #$3 seed is in the quarters of the $25K Margaret River Challenger

ABR’s 20 year-old phenom Guilherme Clezar (ASICS FW & APP) last week achieved a career high ranking at #171

We’ve had some exciting All ASICS matches this week with Vasek vs. Gael, Julia Boserup vs Beatriz and Stevie vs. JP
