A fortnight after undergoing back surgery and apparently writing himself off for the remainder of the ATP season, recovering Andy Murray is said to be ready to make a decision on whether he can be fit for the eight-man season finals starting in a month in London.
The Scot has kept up an active presence on Twitter and elsewhere in the social media world during his convalescence from the operation to correct the disc problem which forced him to skip the French Open and likely kept him well under par for his US Open title defence which ended early in New York.
Murray is already pencilled in for a hit-and-giggle exhibition, the four-man Dream Cup in Barbados, which begins on November 28. He is then due to travel to his winter training base in Miami to build fitness for his next appointment, a money-spinner in Abu Dhabi from the day after Christmas which also featured Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
Murray is the biggest draw card possible in London, and nothing would please organisers and their tennis public more than to have Britain’s first men’s Wimbledon champion in three-quarters of a century play again this season in the capital. If Murray’s recovery is going as well as might be expected, he could well be a starter at the O2 arena.
