The hard-luck story for Milos Raonic has continued in Belgrade after Canada lost a Davis Cup World Group semi-final to the Serb hosts 3-2.
Raonic won 1 point only: one of his two singles matches. He lost his second match, to World Number 1 Novak Djokovic.
Canada’s second point came from the doubles team of Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil.
Both of Canada’s points came from hard-fought, “overtime in fifth set” wins. The three losses were good fights against opponents who were better on the day: no shame, no heartbreak!
For Canada, this loss was a victory in its own way: the first time in ONE HUNDRED YEARS that Canada has made it to the Semi-Finals at Davis Cup. And with a young team — two singles players aged 22 and 23 — it will surely not be the last time Canada plays at this level on the world stage.
Despite playing on the losing side, Raonic was glad to have competed in the semi. “I treat this as one of the biggest parts of my year, just like the Slams, and I prepare for it as best that I can. Obviously the atmosphere is a little bit different, and the people you’re surrounded with is a little bit different. But how you prepare and what you do does not change. You have to do what you have to do to play your best and get the best out of yourself.”
