A sculpture honoring Wimbledon winner Andy Murray has been decapitated by vandals in Dorest, in the west of England.
The sculpture was, in fact, made from beach sand, so the damage might have been expected. Officials reported that other displays were also wrecked, including an Iron Man sculpture.
The work of “art” paid tribute to Murray’s long-sought British title at the All England club, an event from which Britain and Scotland still cannot seem to get over. Mark Anderson, told the BBC that the Murray sand sculpture was crafted amid the joy of Murray’s sporting success.
He called the vandals “morons and idiots”; a reward for helping catching the culprits has also been posted for any information leading to an arrest. The sculpture was crafted from common sand and held together by a coating of polyvinyl alcohol. Anderson did the job himself and was annoyed that he had spent what he said were 200 man-hours in getting it just right.
