Good evening tennis fans! How are you all enjoying the U.S. Open so far?? Seemed like there was an influx of USTA coaches on site, must be time for their annual meeting! I noticed numerous check ins, pictures, and updates all over the social network boards. Glad you could finally join us here in New York!
On that note, things are heating up on the courts. We lost a couple good men recently: Querrey, Ram, Young, Blake, Kudla, and Klahn. Guess it’s up to Isner, Sock, or Smyczek to take the title…
We’ve had some awesome match ups and great five set drama in the early rounds, but also a few very lopsided and boring matches. Hopefully things will pick up in the second week.
Very interesting to see the American crowd turn on Isner during his match with Monfils. They were all chanting for the Frenchman and the American expressed his disappointment with the crowd following. He was however proud of his drunk friend for sticking up for him throughout the match: “I had a college buddy of mine I noticed in the crowd, and in the opening point he was hammered. Every time they were chanting “Monfils” I could hear him, his voice is pretty booming, and he didn’t like that too much (smiling).”
Surprise 3rd rounders are Daniel Evans (GBR), Joao Sousa (POR), Tim Smyczek (USA), and Evgeny Donskoy (RUS). Now you know which underdogs to root for!
