In preparation for the visit of First Lady Michelle Obama for Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day, additional security precautions will be implemented. The USTA is working very closely with the United States Secret Service (USSS) and White House staff to coordinate this plan and minimize the overall impact on the US Open. However, there will be an impact.
These additional security enhancements will only affect Arthur Ashe Stadium and not affect other areas, buildings or stadia on the NTC grounds.
The major component of providing a secure environment for this visit will be to search and sweep all of Arthur Ashe Stadium. To accomplish this, all operations must cease, and media and staff will need to exit the Stadium by 10:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, so that the USSS can initiate this procedure. In preparation for this USSS search and sweep of the Stadium, ALL locked locations (desk drawers, cabinets, lockers, and any other lockable spaces) MUST be opened for inspection. Be assured that following this search, areas that can be re-locked, will be relocked by designated US Open staff.
For members of the media who have put personal locks on the media center and photo center lockers, if left locked during the search and sweep, the locks will be cut open. The USTA will not be replacing any personal locks that may be affected during this procedure.
The media center will reopen as scheduled at 9:00 am, on Saturday, August 4 regarding
