Lets Call Day 6 Tuesday because for some reason the numbers are confusing me now since I am at the tournament for almost a week!
My day started with a morning TV show here at the tournament to speak about the adidas player development program and the day ahead on The Tennis Channel.
After speaking in front of some thousand people on Friday it was another new experience to be on air and it was a lot FUN!
After having gone through the warmup routines with Ana and Caroline it was time to get ready for the matches of today and there were a lot of them for our adidas players.
Andrea continued her run by winning a 3rd match in a row over another adidas player Daniela Hantuchova. Never fun to see 2 adidas players having to play each other. Unfortunately Sorana Cirstea had to withdraw from the tournament due to injury after her great run in Toronto. Ana suffered a loss yesterday against a well playing Cornet after leading 6-2 5-2 (these are the tougher losses for any player as some of you may know yourself, however like always she fought hard to get her victory). Caroline was impressive yesterday beating Peng 6-1 6-1 and showed improvement with a more offensive and variety type if Game!
After the match I went for a little workout and made sure I stuck to my personal hour if power routine. Since I did my run in the morning so I fill up my self before I full up others.
Yesterday after the match of Ana I went to the WTA Coaches locker room (there are 2 separate once 1 for women’s and 1 men’s coaches some tournaments have none or just 1) ! Ok let me give the definition of the coaches locker room. 1 room 1 toilet 1 shower 2 water basins to wash your hands and a 3 foot bench. This is a good coaches locker room compared to many tournaments where they may not even have a coaches locker room at all.
Anyway when I entered the coaches locker room, to my great surprise, Jimmy Connors was there after having had a warmup with Maria Sharapova. You would think that a tennis legend like Jimmy would get access to the locker room of the ATP, where male coaches and players have access. To me, it was a sign of respect by Jimmy as he is now one of the women’s coaches. Unless the tournament did not give or forgot to give him access to the ATP locker room?
The days are long because the schedule does not come out until late in the evening and I make it a habit to stay around till I see it with my own eyes and prepare for another day!
