Murray Is Making No Predictions In Montreal

Andy Murray is making no predictions regarding his hardcourt form when he steps onto the cement this week at the Montreal Masters after four months off of the punishing surface. The second seed behind Novak Djokovic will be playing the second round against either Marcel Granollers, Spain’s weekend winner of the Kitzbuehel title on clay, or Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

“When you’ve not played for a few weeks you always get a bit nervous before the first match,” said Murray, who is trying to keep his first career grand title defence at the fast-approaching US Open in perspective. “I feel good about the last couple of months, but I’m still not expecting to go out there and play great tennis. I’ll have to try and find a way to go through the first one.”

Murray is unsure of what he will be up against a month after winning Wimbledon. “It will be a very difficult match. I’ll have to be patient with myself and not expect too much. I’ll have to fight for every point. If I can do that I’ll give myself a chance at winning but it won’t be an easy start for me.”

Murray has been in Montreal for five days with coach Ivan Lendl and had a hit with rival Rafael Nadal as both men work to get accustomed to cement again after not playing on the surface since March.
