Global marketing icon Maria Sharapova will be put to good use at her native Russia’s Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, February 7 to 24 as a brand ambassador by new sponsor Samsung. The four-time grand slam champion will be utilized as part of a corporate strategy of promoting sporting and Olympic ideals in hopes that some of the feel-good spirit of the Games will rub off on the South Korean electronics giant.
In addition to the highly marketable Sharapova, Samsung will be promoting its line of Galaxy smart phones, thorough a dedicated Galaxy team at Sochi 2014. That initiative will also include top athletes from various disciplines, the Sharapova sponsor said.
The Samsung initiative is familiar territory to Sharapova, who also currently promotes international brands including Land Rover, Evian, Google, Canon and Nike.
