Hotel Owner Murray Says No Foie Gras At His Hotel

As he pauses during the post-Wimbledon period and before getting stuck back into tennis next week at the Montreal Masters, Andy Murray has been taking more and more interest his upcoming sideline as a luxury hotel owner, winning friends in the animal-rights world by banning foie gras from the restaurant of the five-star property he recently purchased in his hometown.

The much beloved French delicacy will not be on offer in the hotel restaurant which would well be run by Michelin-starred French chef Albert Roux.

The 15-room Cromlix House in the Scottish town of Dunblane is currently undergoing reconstruction after the multimillionaire world No. 2 purchased it for around $3 million. Murray’s team has already been dealing with local preservationists who are upset over the relocation of a Victorian sundial which came with the premises

But Murray may well be cut some slack after launching into national sporting hero status by winning Wimbledon last month. The stately home was built in 1874 on 50 acres of Scottish woodland and was the venue for Jamie Murray’s 2010 marriage.

“I’m pleased to be able to give something back to the community I grew up in,” Murray has said of the project expected to provide more jobs for locals when it opens in time for next spring’s Ryder Cup gold to be played in the area. Bookings are not being taken, according to local media with construction apparently still on schedule.
