As excitement builds at home for next week’s Montreal Masters, top Canadian Milos Raonic has a more immediate job facing him as he tunes up with his first summer hardcourt matches at the ATP-WTA Washington event this week.
The No. 13 had a poor Wimbledon and has not played since, preferring to intensify his work with new coach Ivan Ljubicic, a former top fie who knows what it takes to win. The results is still out on the results of their off-court labors, with the test to come in the steamy American capital.
“There are a lot of things I’m working on. I want to get quicker and stronger but I also want to be more aggressive,” Raonic told Canadian media before travelling south, “I think Ivan is the coach who can take me to the next level.”
Their collaboration began on a low-key note during the French Open and apparently needs time to jell after the hectic clay-and-grass run.
“You don’t make changes during the Grand Slams but we started a few weeks ago with fitness work and this week we’ve been working on fitness and on the court,” said Raonic.
“We’ve been here at nine every morning and not leaving until eight.”
