British teenager Laura Robson may be poised for a marketing breakout after reports in London’s Daily Mail linking her to the IMG management agency. The 19-year-old, ranked 31st and currently managed by Octagon, raised her profile during Wimbledon, where she reached the fourth round,
The reported move would count as a boost for flagging IMG, which has been on the auction block from some months with owners reportedly yet to find a buyer for the marketing conglomerate. Over the past year or more, the company has seen cash cows Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal depart for more lucrative private management arrangements.
Robson would become part of the same stable as British rival Heather Watson.
Also managed by IMG: top women’s earner Maria Sharapova and former French Open winner Li Na, who reaps millions off the homegrown China market where pent-up demand is staggering.
Robson has kept a low profile throughout her career on the commercial front but could become a more familiar figures under new management, She recently took on Andy Murray’s one-time coach Miles Maclagan and is now preparing to travel to North America for the pre-US Open run of tournaments.
