Obviously the expected result, but it costs Lourdes Dominguez Lino her shot at the Top Fifty.

Singles – Quarterfinal: (3) Klara Zakopalova def. Richel Hogenkamp 6-2 6-3

Until now, Klara Zakopalova had been defending points, but with this, she starts to add; she should rise to #35.

Singles – Quarterfinal: (8) Johanna Larsson def. Mathilde Johansson 6-1 6-2

Mathilde Johansson was last year’s finalist, so she will be falling well below #100.

Singles – Quarterfinal: Flavia Pennetta def. Virginie Razzano 6-1 6-3

Flavia Pennetta faces Johanna Larsson next. Obviously she will officially be the underdog — but in practice, we’d say she is the favorite to reach the final.

Doubles – Semifinal: (1) Medina Garrigues/Zakopalova def. Duque-Marino/Pereira 7-6(9-7) 6-1

There is something a little absurd about Buryachok/Tatishvili being seeded ahead of a team with former #1 Flavia Pennetta on it. As the result proved….

It’s clear that there was something wrong with Annika Beck, but it’s really unfortunate for her — this was a big opening. She’ll move slightly above #50, but only slightly.

Back-to-back semifinals for Yvonne Meusburger. Can she make another final? She’s ranked close to Knapp, her next opponent — and she is Austrian.

Singles – Quarterfinal: Elina Svitolina def. Patricia Mayr-Achleitner 6-3 6-0

Elina Svitolina is still only 18 and rising steadily. This should take her to around #70.

Singles – Quarterfinal: Andrea Hlavackova def. Lisa-Maria Moser 6-3 7-6(7-4)

There was a rain delay at 5-5 in the second set of this, but it didn’t last long enough to cool down Andrea Hlavackova. Who, since she faces Svitolina next, has a pretty fair shot at making the final. And she has already put herself back in the Top Hundred.
