IMX, a joint venture of EBX and IMG Worldwide, announced its first entrant of the Rio Open to be David Ferrer, number 3 in ATP ranking.
The inaugural event, a combined ATP 500 and WTA International event will be held February 15-23, 2014, in Rio de Janeiro. It will be South American’s biggest tennis tournament.
IMX has also confirmed some partnerships for the event, with Ita, Rolex, Corona, Asics, Estacio and Head.
The Rio Open is a new event in the ATP and the WTA calendars. It is the only combined ATP World Tour 500 and WTA International event in South America.
The tournament, distributing a total prize money of U$ 1.5 million (US$ 1.25 million for the ATP and US$ 250,000 for the WTA) will be held on the 8 clay courts of the Jockey Club Brasileiro, including a Stadium with 7000 seats. Tickets go on sale in October.
Among some of the assets of the company are the Rio Open, UFC (MMA), Volvo Ocean Race (sailing), Megarampa (skating), Brazil Classic (golf), World Volleyball 4×4, Vert Jam (extreme sports), FMX (motocross), and also a participation in the Consortium Maracana SA, that will manage the Maracana Complex for 35 years, besides having also a partnership with Rock World S.A., owner of the brand Rock in Rio and with Cirque du Soleil, that allows IMX to explore the different businesses of the Cirque, in South America.
