That the odds for the four semi-finalist winning Wimbledon has changed significantly from the beginning of The Championships; Radwanska 40/1, Lisicki 66/1, Bartoli 100/1, Flipkens 300/1
Wimbledon semifinalist Kirsten Flipkens had praise for her friend Kim Clijsters, who has helped sponsor her. “It means so much to me,” she said. “She’s in America, but she’s been there for me through the good and through the bad times.”. . .
Petra Kvitova was struck by a virus ahead of her three- set loss to Kirsten Flipkens at Wimbledon: “I had a sore throat,” she said. “I felt pretty dizzy and tired and sleepy, so, I mean, for sure didn’t help me. But, I don’t do excuse because of this. Kirsten played very well. She did not give me anything free. I tried, but it wasn’t enough.” The Czech isn’t sure whether Flipkens can win the title but she does give her a shot: “She can play well, for sure. I mean, for her was the first time to be in a quarterfinal. I’m quite surprised how she played [without experience]. It will be more about the mental side. She plays really well and she really can surprise someone. But I’m not sure how is it with the mental side.”. . .
Even though she was experiencing her worst season ever coming into Wimbledon, 2007 finalist Marion Bartoli still gave herself a chance to reach the semifinals “My body was cracking up all over the place. I felt my ankle was hurting me still in the French Open. Couldn’t really be able to be ready for Birmingham, unfortunately, and then got this bad virus at Eastbourne. But I was still in the back of my head thinking I could do well in here. Tennis is kind of a crazy game, and now I am playing Kirsten Flipkens to be in the final of Wimbledon. So it’s also very unexpected, but that’s also the magic of it.” The 28-year-old Bartoli briefly befriended actor Pierce Brosnan during her run to the final in 2007 and said it actually helped her relax and get pumped up: “I have some weird motivations sometimes I can fight off, but somehow it’s working. I can’t tell you all of them, but sometimes it’s a bit crazy.” . . .
Lukasz Kubot is surprised as anyone that he and fellow Pole Jerzy Janowicz are facing off in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon: “I think it’s big moment for Polish tennis,” he said. “I think at the moment I have no words. Just have to be honest. I’m very surprised. I’m looking forward for this match. Whatever happens, one ever us will be in semifinal, which makes already history for Polish tennis. . .
The Bank of the West Classic at Stanford is thrilled that four of its entrants — Sabine Lisicki, Agnieszka Radwanska, Marion Bartoli and Kirsten Flipkens — have all advanced to the final four at Wimbledon. The tournament will be held July 22-28 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. . .
Tennis’ International Club asked former Wimbledon champion Michael Stich to present its annual award to Roger Federer. . .
Har-Tru will holds it first Olympic Club Har-Tru Clay Court Juniors Shootout ahead of the USTA National Clay Court Championships. . .
Troy University tennis coach Eric Hayes has resigned to take on the position of tennis coach at Mercer. . .
Pittsburgh has hired former University of Miami assistant coach Alex Santos as the head coach of the women’s team.

What a Wimbledon ! I’m taking a guess but am fairly certain tv numbers in the U.S. must be down. That doesn’t mean just because certain big names are missing that there’s not great tennis ! The Ladies semi is one for the record books. Four odd candidates. Flipkens is a 400 to 1. Still the long shot. Wonder what her odds were on the beginning of The Championships ? 4000 to 1 ?
Does anyone besides me wonder why Andy Roddick who is “retired” has signed a new clothing deal ? Our guess has been and still is he is planning a comeback…..U.S. Open ?
Are there tennis pros traveling with portable hyperbaric chambers ?
Ok. This one really surprised me. Petra Kvitova is dizzy, and has flu like symptoms but at the end of her match to “Flipper ” she kisses her on both cheeks at the net. Yuk! I would have shook her hand and then found sanitizer. ….
Ok and we are still on a tear about Roger Federer having to change his shoes. Ok. His soles were orange. But he was still way under the 10 percent rule. Many of The Ladies players are sporting solid color knickers / panties. What’s that about ? Most of there rears cover more space/ real estate than Rogers shoes …no ?
