Bernard Tomic’s father and coach John is banned from the tournament at Wimbledon for allegedly head butting his son’s hitting partner back in May at the tournament in Madrid, but John Tomic’s presence is still being felt. John is staying with his son in the Wimbledon Village during the tournament.

“When I leave the grounds and go somewhere different, you don’t see what I’m doing with my dad,” said Bernard Tomic, who has reached the fourth round of the tournament. “I could be practicing, I could be working on stuff. You see the results, but you don’t know exactly what’s happening. When I leave the site, I’m with my dad. He’s helping me at this tournament. We’re doing the right things. This is why the results are showing off now. I’m not doing it on my own. My dad is still involved. That’s why I’ve gotten to where I am in this tournament and the results have shown.”

Some analysts have speculated that Bernard is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, meaning that regardless of what his father has done that he has become his emotional captive and can’t objectively see whether his parent is doing right or wrong.

“When asked whether or not there was no need for his father to be at Wimbledon because he was doing well without him,” the 20 year old lashed out. “You don’t say that, all right, that your father’s not here, you’re doing very well, do you need him, don’t you need him. That’s not an appropriate question to ask because he’s my dad. It’s family. I’m going to stick by that.”

Back at 2011 Wimbledon, Tomic reached the quarterfinals. He has also reached the fourth round of the Aussie Open twice. Overall, he’s performed better at the majors than he has on the ATP Tour. This year, after he fell to Federer in Melbourne, he compiled an 8-12 record on the tour before Wimbledon began.

“Obviously you want to do the best at these big tournaments, said the world No. 59. “I like playing at the Grand Slams. I feel like I get my training periods ready for these Grand Slams, give myself the best chance of playing well at these tournaments. I love playing in Melbourne. I love playing [Wimbledon]. I just feel good on grass. The whole Wimbledon thing is very good to me. I’ve always been happy playing here. I think that’s why I play very good tennis here.”
