Just when you thought things would settle back into a normal rhythm at the All England Club following Nadal’s early exit… Things take a turn yet again on day 3.

Victoria Azarenka withdraws from her second round encounter against Flavia Pennetta citing a knee injury that she sustained in a first round slip. It seems everyone is vulnerable the first couple days at Wimbledon with the grass being so fresh and slippery. If only the grounds crew could create grass that was solid under foot but lasted the entire fortnight. More on the slippery grass to come!

Steve Darcis, the remarkable journeyman who took down Rafa in straight sets, has withdrawn from the tournament due to a right shoulder injury he sustained during one of those dives versus Rafa. History repeats itself as Rafa’s conquerer at Wimbledon is gone in the very next round.

Radek Stepanek, who is a delight to watch on the grass, was unable to continue against Janowicz and retired after trailing by a set and a break. His thigh injury has continually nagged him for some time now.

American hopeful John Isner retires with left knee injury after slipping in the first game of the match against Adrian Mannarino. Mannarino given a free pass into third round where he might play Dustin Brown who is leading Hewitt by two sets to love at the moment!
