It’s only the start of Wimbledon but as far as the China Open is concerned, the highlight of the tennis year will come in two months when Novak Djokovic returns to headline the ATP event. The Serb world No. 1 will lead the field at the 10th edition in a field which also includes Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic has a 14-match win streak in the recordbooks in the capital after winning the title in 2009, 2010 and 2011 with the record including a walkover in 2010. “We have promised to present the best players to our fans and we are excited to be able to announce that World No.1 Novak Djokovic will come back to Beijing to defend his title. To have both Novak and Rafael playing the tenth anniversary of the China Open is great news for tennis fans in China,” said tournament boss Alfred Zhang.
Djokovic has charmed Chinese crowds at the ATP events in Beijing and the commercial capital of Shanghai. Last year in Beijing the fun-loving player showed off both his rudimentary Mandarin speaking skills, hand writing Chinese character and celebrating his title with a “Gangnam-Style’ dance with the ball kids.
“I always look forward to traveling to Beijing in October,”said the player. “The magnificent venue, the great organization and especially the enthusiastic fans all make me feel good. I can’t wait to return to the Diamond Court and play.”
