USTA Pro Circuits To Offer US Open Wild Cards  |

The USTA announced that USTA Player Development will award a main draw wild card to one American man and one American woman who earn the most ATP World Tour and WTA tour ranking points in a series of USTA Pro Circuit events this summer. Only players who have not earned direct acceptance into the US Open are eligible for the wild card.

The USTA Pro Circuit events taking part are:

USTA Pro Circuit Men’s Events

$50,000 Levene Gouldin & Thompson Tennis Challenger, Binghamton, N.Y. (week of July 15)

$50,000 Fifth Third Bank Championships, Lexington, Ky. (week of July 22)

$100,000 Odlum Brown Van Open presented by Invesco, Vancouver, Canada (week of July 29)

$100,000 Comerica Bank Challenger, Aptos, Calif. (week of August 5)

USTA Pro Circuit Women’s Events

$50,000 Yakima Regional Hospital Challenger, Yakima, Wash. (week of July 8)

$50,000 Oregon Challenger, Portland, Ore. (week of July 15)

$50,000 Fifth Third Bank Championships, Lexington, Ky. (week of July 22)

Ranking points from two out of the four men’s events and ranking points from two of the three women’s events will be used and combined to calculate the point total and determine the US Open wild card recipient. If a player competes in more than two events, only his or her two best tournaments will be counted in calculating the point total.

The USTA first used this format for its 2012 French Open wild cards, won by Melanie Oudin and Brian Baker, who each advanced to the second round at last year’s French Open and subsequently broke into the Top 100.

The USTA also used this format to grant a men’s and women’s main draw wild card into the 2012 US Open, which was won by Steve Johnson and Mallory Burdette, who both reached the third round of the US Open, as well as the 2013 French Open, which was won by Alex Kuznetsov and Shelby Rogers.

The 2013 US Open will be held Monday, Aug. 26, through Monday, Sept. 9.
