Novak Djokovic watched the new documentary Venus and Serena and came away impressed. He tweeted: “Did you watch Venus & Serena documentary? I just finished. Really inspiring story. They are true champions.” . . . Bob Bryant, who resigned as tournament director of the BB&T Atlanta Open but is continuing in that role until after the event ends on July 20, has already started his new job as president and CEO of the 500 Festival in Indianapolis. . . Now businessman Andre Agassi told CNBC that business in Las Vegas is picking up following the recession that hit the city hard. “It’s been tough, said Agassi, who grew up in the area. We’ve been the fastest growing city in America for a lot of years. Any city that grows that fast…it’s going to be the hardest hit, and it has been for a multitude of reasons.” The housing market has picked up, no doubt about it – a good 30 percent – and we’re starting to see tourism pick up and some of the life-blood in our culture here pick up.” . . .Pippa Middleton, the sister of Princess Kate, made her debut as a writer for Vanity Fair. She wrote a Wimbledon preview, where she revealed an early experience as a fan. I was at Wimbledon with my dad watching Tim Henman and Pete Sampras play. We were sitting quite close to the players court entrance. When Tim Henman walked onto the court, the crowd cheered him, and as he neared our seats my dad mistakenly yelled, Come on, Pete! That was embarrassing. . . The Hawaiian sunglass company Maui Jim will host a media gathering at the Wimbledon Club on June 23 from with appearances by its tennis ambassadors, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Sabine Lisicki. . . Roger Federer teamed up with his friend Tommy Haas in doubles at Halle, where they lost to Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner 7-6 (3), 6-3. Federer explained why he rarely plays doubles. I haven t played doubles in some time because I was either busy, or just having family, because of not putting more strain on the body or whatever it might have been, he told reporters. And sometimes it was also just that I just wasn’t in the mood to spend more time at the courts, and go through the whole ordeal of warming up, playing another match, more press conferences. All that stuff just wears you out as well sometimes. . . Heather Watson is calling for the introduction of the Hawk-Eye line calling system at Birmingham. I thought that was an awful over-rule but we need challenges here. They have Hawk-Eye in tournaments of this level around the world. . . David Felgate, the coach of Donna Vekic says that comparison between the 16-year-old Croat and Maria Sharapova is premature. Sharapova won 2004 Wimbledon at 17. Sharapova’s birthday is a few months before Donna’s, he said. Donna will be 17 at Wimbledon, so if Donna is to be compared with Sharapova she has to be winning Wimbledon this time, not next year. And in my wildest dreams I can’t see that. I will just be happy if she wins a round at Wimbledon. . . Daniela Hantuchova says she is far from over the hill at the age of 30. She won the Birmingham title on Sunday “It shows me I can still compete at the highest level, both physically and mentally. It’s actually so nice to see so many players from my generation doing so well, starting with Serena [Williams], obviously – what she’s done over the last few years is just amazing. And Francesca [Schiavone], Roberta [Vinci] – it’s nice to see the old way of playing still being so successful right now, and I’m glad to be a part of it.” . . Fila now has four-color combinations for men and three for women of its popular Sentinel shoe, and extended a 6-month guarantee on the Sentinel s Evergrind outsole. . . Hyeon Chung of South Korea won his first pro title in Gimcheon, Korea by defeating top seed Enrique Lopez-Perez of Spain, 6-2 6-3 in the final. Chung, who turned 17 less than one month ago, became the youngest player in Korean history to accomplish this feat. He has been ranked as high as No. 7 on the ITF Junior World Rankings and will be competing at Aegon Junior International Roehampton and the Junior Wimbledon Championships
