Andy Murray is the subject of a new documentary, chronicling the British No. 1’s past 12 months on the ATP World Tour.

Entitled ‘Andy Murray: The Man Behind The Racquet’, the hour-long documentary follows the Scot from his runner-up finish at Wimbledon last July through his recent victory at the Aegon Championships, highlighted by his triumphs at the London Olympics and the US Open.

Cameras provide a behind-the-scenes peek at Murray’s life on and off the court, trailing him at his homecoming in Dunblane, at the gym for pilates and physio sessions, in front of a lens at a GQ photo shoot, and out on a walk with his girlfriend and their dogs.

“You don’t see anything flash because he doesn’t do anything flash,” documentary director Jo McCusker tells the Radio Times. “He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t go out. And it all comes back to one word, mentioned by everyone we spoke to – ‘ordinary’. This ordinariness, this humbleness, an ordinary lad who has become extraordinary.”

In addition to interviews with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, John McEnroe and Andre Agassi, the documentary includes insight from his family, friends and famous tennis fans including Kevin Spacey, Anna Wintour, Christopher Bailey, Sir Alex Ferguson, Lennox Lewis and James Corden.

“He is effectively operating a business,” McCusker says. “When I asked him ‘who rules the roost’ he was very definite, He does; he is in charge of the Murray operation. It made me think ‘this is a 26 year old who’s not just playing tennis but who’s employing coaches, physios and he’s actively involved with his management company regarding sponsorship and media commitments.’ The business side is not something I had really considered which is why we explore it further in the programme, it’s a fascinating insight.”

‘The Man Behind The Racquet’ will air at 10:25pm on BBC1 next Sunday in the U.K., with plans for an international version following Wimbledon. Tennis fans in the U.K. only can watch a trailer of the documentary, here.
