Serena Williams will take her usual two-week break before arriving at Wimbledon without a match on grass. But if her form stays at the level she showed to win a second French Open title 11 years after her first, the pause may not be any kind of a problem,
It’s a sure bet that Roland Garros champion will be spending at least a few more days in the city she likes to call “home.” With a Paris flat, a high profile coach-boyfriend and some local language skills, Williams believes she’s earned the right to be called at least a part-time Parisian.
“I’m here a lot,” she said after beating Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-4.
“When I come here and I stay at my place and I’m just living a normal life, I’m training and then I go to sleep, so I feel like I have a lot more ties to this city and to this country because of it, because I’m a lot more familiar with the area and with things like that.”
The 31-year-old has no real explanation as to why she is dominating, with three titles from her last six Grand Slams. “I’m really relaxed, I really enjoy every moment that I’m out there. I always said that I felt like I have never played my best tennis. I have said that for years, I feel I can always do better and play better. I’ve always wanted to reach that level.”
