Been a while since I checked in last. Although insanely hot, I arrived in Dubai a few weeks ago, stepping away from tournaments in order to rehab my hip injury. Its been pretty eventful here. Starting with a night on the dhow (a traditional wooden local boat), cruising down Dubai creek, enjoying a buffet dinner, music and a crazy traditional dancer who must have been pretty dizzy after his non stop turning… I must say that it was a great outing and surprisingly very reasonable for Dubai’s hustle and bustle. Would definitely recommend it. With good contacts we were lucky enough to be taken on a private tour through Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world) where we sat to have a drink in the residential lounge on the 124th floor (incredibly still not the highest floor). As the hip started to recover… I decided to take a few little adventurous risks… went to aqua venture water park… which is found on one of those crazy man made Palm islands. After a whole bunch of convincing… I finally got Laura to go down the “Leap of faith” water slide. With its almost vertical drop its not a ride you want to look down on before starting :/ Ha my offer of a box of popcorn at the bottom of the slide was too much to resist and she took on the “leap.” With regular visits to the physio, a couple of hits here and there, exploring the contrasts between the new and old Dubai and filling up on lots of great food and hospitality it is a shame I will be leaving soon.
