The magic of Porsche has finally begun to rub off on Maria Sharapova a month after the world number two signed on as a brand ambassador for the legendary German sports car marquee.
Sharapova has won the Stuttgart clay event – and along with it, two Porsche cabriolets – for the last two editions. Now the highest-earning woman in all of world sport is coming to grips with the responsibilities that her brand icon position with the firm entails.
“It’s relatively new, we just signed the contract a few months ago,” she said of the deal. “We’re working on a few different things that are going to happen in the next few months, maybe towards the end of the year.”
When at company headquarters in Stuttgart last month, Sharapova was given a tour of the facilities. “I had a whole tour of the museum, but I haven’t been to like where they get down and dirty and doing all the engines and all that.
“It’s an incredibly luxurious brand, and I’m beyond excited about working with them. They’ve never had a real worldwide ambassador before, so it was a big chance and a little risky. It’s been really nice so far.”
