PARIS, May 26, 2013 – Tennis Channel, the only 24-hour, television-based multimedia destination dedicated to both the professional sport and tennis lifestyle, is introducing a free mobile app during the 2013 French Open that will allow fans to watch the network’s match coverage on their favorite tablets and mobile devices. Aptly named Tennis Channel Everywhere, the app represents the network’s initial foray into the world of mobility and “always on” accessibility.
Tennis Channel Everywhere will be available on Apple and Android platforms beginning today with live French Open match coverage set to begin the first day of the French Open, Sunday, May 26, and continue through Sunday, June 2. Archived matches will be available on demand throughout and following the tournament. The app is available to everyone, regardless of whether or not they currently subscribe to Tennis Channel.
Similar to the live and on-demand streams Tennis Channel has offered on its Web site since its first year of French Open coverage in 2007, Tennis Channel Everywhere allows viewers to choose from multiple matches at the world’s most prestigious clay-court event. These include Court Philippe Chatrier, Court Suzanne-Lenglen and the other currently televised courts throughout the tournament grounds.
“The French Open is two weeks of dramatic storylines and one of the most prestigious events in all of sports, the ideal event for us to introduce Tennis Channel Everywhere,” said Ken Solomon, chairman and CEO, Tennis Channel. “Tennis Channel has become the television home of our sport throughout the year, and a mobile app is the next step in our effort to be an always-on, reliable source for fans everywhere – in this case expanding to let viewers watch everywhere from the beach in Miami to walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, whenever they want. This is really version 1.0 though, just a glimpse of what it will rapidly grow into with the help of our distribution partners and the fact that tennis, by its multi-event, multi-player nature, is the perfect sport to lead this fast-developing arena.”
The app is comparable to the video page on Tennis Channel’s Web site, and will offer daily highlights, interviews and other segments from nightly show French Open Tonight, as well as popular short clips like Bag Check features and Court Report news updates.
